My First Flutter Presentation (The first step towards becoming an expert)
Originally published on Medium.

Greetings! I’m Melih. I am a 3rd-year computer engineering student at Bursa Uludag University. I have been developing mobile applications with flutter for two years. I am writing this post today because yesterday I made a flutter presentation for the first time in my life. I explained flutter technology at Bursa Technical University. I wanted to write an article to immortalize this moment.
First Contact
I want to start from the beginning. I woke up one morning and a message from LinkedIn. I just looked (LinkedIn messages are usually important and I get unintentionally excited). Bursa Technical University Google Developer Students Club member Ebrar wrote. She said briefly; We want to introduce Flutter technology, can you give a talk about it? When I heard this, of course, I flew into the air. Frankly, I’m a little too humble about these things. In the field of software (also in the field of Flutter), there are many topics and widgets that I still do not know. And I never claim to know very well.
What I want to mention here is this; the subject is clear. Flutter will be explained. I was incredibly pleased that they chose me as the person to research, question, investigate and tell, and that they saw me as competent enough for this subject. Of course, I’m flying into the air :)
After everything was set, they said to find the presentation name and post a photo. I asked for what? They said that we will prepare a poster. BANNER! I was always in the position of preparing posters. An indescribable feeling.

5 years ago today?!?!
The date I made the presentation was December 27. Today is very important to me. Because I started coding exactly 5 years ago, on December 27, 2016. How do I know this? Of course, I’m not keeping dates. I got a notification, 5 years ago that you have photos from today. I saw that it was the first Arduino photo I took. The Arduino set I ordered came home and I immediately opened it and took a picture. Making a presentation 5 years after starting coding… I think it’s not a bad move.

Presentation Preparation
I have never prepared a presentation for so many people in my life. I have no idea how to do it. I immediately found a template from Canva and started watching the flutter presentations.
It took me two days to prepare a presentation :) Normally, I prepared 19 pages. But while creating these pages, I designed and deleted as many pages.
According to the feedback I received, the background of my presentation was too dark. It’s not very dark, but it is very reflected in the light on the stage. If you are going to prepare a presentation, I recommend you choose a light background.

Presentation Time
Yes, we came to the presentation moment. Before me, the head of the group gave his speech and invited me to the stage to make a presentation. I ran and ran. I never get nervous when speaking in public, and it was the same with this presentation. I told everything as if I was telling it to a very close friend. I’ve never had a problem with the sound flickering. And that was a big plus for me.
I think I did not bore the audience during the presentation. There was a maximum of 2 3 people who went out in the middle of the presentation. A friend sitting in the front and taking notes. When I saw him take notes, I was telling with more enthusiasm.
First, I talked about flutter technology. I touched on topics such as why to learn. I explained the difference between other languages and the logic of widgets. Then I talked about firebase and the fuchsia operating system. At the end of the presentation, I talked about the sector in TR, Bursa, and the global sector in general. I talked about what employers pay attention to in this area.
After presenting the flutter technology in general, I wrote a very simple code. What I wanted to explain here was the basic widget logic. I didn’t go into too much technical detail. I’m leaving the code and output below in case anyone else is interested.

After the Presentation
After the presentation, I got very good feedback. It was a fluent speech. I just repeated some words too much, my friends made constructive criticism about it.
Finally, I told the audience that this presentation was the first and I wanted to take a photo together. Right now that photo is at the top :)

All in all, it was an amazing experience for me. I can say that I took my first step towards becoming a Google Flutter Expert. See you in the next articles ✋
